Update on the Terrible rashes & the Magical Ointment update!

Hi there, a big apology to those who must have been expecting to read an update on my previous post, or to even get the name of the "magical ointment". The name of the magical ointment is..... (drum roll please...) "Altargo" and its made by...... . So after so much contemplation on whether to buy or not to, i eventually bought this "superglue-like", '5g' ointment for N2000. I used it for about 3 days and Voala!, the rashes disappeared. I was so ecstatic! i finally conquered the annoying rashes. However, the skin on the places where the rashes were, started peeling off, which i guess is not a bad after all.

Altargo has done it for me. I'm sure my son also feels so relieved. Poor boy. This however doesn't mean that all other stuff like, Baby Tribotan, Agnesia powder (this actually helped with his diaper rash), Shea butter and blue seal Vaseline, that i used do not work, its just that i was to impatient to see them work in their own time, its just that i wanted a "quick fix",which thankfully i got.

So here are the lessons learnt from my experience, try to keep the baby relatively cool by using the AC, fan or natural air, bathe baby twice daily, and always clean baby up after sweating. I also did few things that I'm not proud of, all in the name of finding a solution to the rashes. E.g using a mixture of Sudocrem and "silver bird Eucalyptus oil" and also using Skineal without mixing it with Shea butter or Vaseline which can leave a baby with an uneven skin tone.

Rashes again? Oh no.

Hi there, rashes have 're-visited' my baby's body, and this very annoying and irritating. I'm not even sure if its a rash or an allergy. I've tried so many things and some seem to work for a while and then stop, while others do little or nothing. The only new thing I've introduced to his diet is the light brown millet pap (not the reddish ones), which i have decided to stop for now because of the rashes. I have just finished 'battling' with cough and cold, so I'm still skeptical about the whole "keep him cool", "don't over dress him", advice i get from people. Some will say, "aha, wear two items of cloth for him", others say "don't stuff him up". Can you 'see' my dilemma?

I saw a Dr and he prescribed an ointment for my son, and when i got to the pharmacy, i couldn't buy it because i didn't have enough money on me. However, i must also add that the ointment was "so small", about 5 ml, just like the size of the popular "super glue". I was like "what is this"? Why is this tiny thing so expensive? But i guess it wasn't the poor attendant's fault, because she didn't answer me, she only smiled. As i was busy lamenting, another female customer advised that i use original shear butter, "ori", or blue seal Vaseline. My friends, i have tried these two options but all to no avail. Maybe i am just too inpatient to see a possible solution to the end, but can you blame me, i don't like the way the rashes look and feel on my "Oyinbo" (meaning light- skinned) and will do anything (reasonable) to get rid of it.

So, I have finally resulted to buying this "magical" ointment and trust me, it will (not must) work like real magic, because i can't take this any longer. I used to feel that mothers' whose babies have rashes and other skin issues are not neat enough or are careless, (yes, shame on me) but now, i know better.

In all of this I'm still thankful because, he's very well, no fever, still the happy boy i know. I was just telling a fellow 'first-time-mom' like me that the rashes doesn't seem to bother my son and that its only me it disturbs. But not to worry, I'll surely come back here in less than 48 hours to give a "testimony", after i must have used the "magical" ointment on these stubborn rashes.

Thanks for reading this post and laughing at (or with) me, i really appreciate it.

(Btw, you must have noticed by now that my son adores the camera, Lol. Like mother like son.)

He took his first steps today...Yipee!!

Hi there, Momore took his first steps today!!!! I'm so happy and everyone needs to hear this. Lol. I was somewhere waiting to be attended to, and while waiting, Momore's foster brother (living with us) pointed my attention to the fact that he had taken a step unaided. I was flabbergasted! I immediately took my phone and started recording his every action, hoping he would repeat the steps again, and he sure did. I made up to 10 short videos. I was very ready for this because recently, a friend told me when her daughter took her first steps but sadly, she wasn't able to make any videos, and that was when i told myself that i had to be ready for mine. Hehehehe.

We were all so excited that we totally forgot we were not at home and started laughing whenever he took one or two steps. I guess he knew i was recording, as he kept entertaining us and sometimes even made me forget that i was a bit disappointed that i couldn't see the person i went there to see.

In short, it was a lovely day for us. I have at different points been anxious to see him sit, crawl, stand, speak clearly, clap, walk, and all these have been achieved. I know experienced moms and others too will say that my work has just begun, but "abeg" (means 'please') i can't to see him walk very well, run, go to school, date ;), graduate from Uni, get married etc. It’s been a wonderful journey so far and i know it can only get better. I am however very grateful to God for giving me the grace to "mother" this wonderful boy and i pray for such grace for everyone who prays for same too.

Oh no! not again. Sorry baby, "poor" boy.

Hi there, my son is learning to stand and as a result, he falls down a lot, a whole lot and this can be very annoying. I however have no problem with this, as i believe its part of his growth and development, which cannot be avoided. He also enjoys crawling underneath beds, tables, chairs, etc. I now see why a good friend of mine is keeping her son's hair; to reduce the effect that falls have had on him. His hair can be packed into one big bun. Nice move there. Momore has a little bump on his head which thankfully is gradually reducing and this happened after he hit head on a wooden dinning chair. Poor boy! I have had to tell him "Sorry baby" so many times in recent times. Still coughing a bit, but it’s so much better and even almost gone, his lateral incisor teeth are cutting out and he's taking it really well. No unnecessary pooing, boils, just the stubborn cough.

I hope this bump on Momore’s head goes down soon and this cough finally disappears, but I’m sure by then something else will come up worthy of note to blog about.

Fellow nursing moms, please kindly share your experiences here. Let us learn from one another and how to deal with our issues oo.

Don't call me "baby". I'm a mom! ........ How time flies.

Hi there, happy Eid- El- Fitir! I hope you're having a wonderful holiday as i am. I was so happy driving to my parents' for the holiday as i needed a short break from my house. I know what you're thinking, but of course, i took my baby along with me, my handbag, lol. He's now 10 months and 2 weeks old and slowly, time is going by and my baby will soon be a year old. How time flies, before you know what's happening, he'll start saying "mom i don't want this, i want that, etc. I saw a friend's baby today and wow, she's so grown! I remember when this girl was born and this was barely 14 months ago!

I have come to learn to enjoy each day as they come because before you know it, you’ll be dancing at your child’s 5th, 10th birthday celebration, or even wedding ceremony! Time does fly and we need to enjoy every second, minute and hour of it.

Something really funny happened today and i must share. Momore has destroyed our dstv remote and his dad held me responsible for it. Fortunately for me, today my mom and I went out and I saw a guy selling remotes. As i was approaching him, he called me "baby" and i was like "what, how can you call me baby?" It was then he looked at my left hand, saw my wedding band and apologized. I guess i should have been happy that i still look like a "baby”, but i don’t know what came over me because i felt embarrassed. I was with my mom, who by the way was dressed like a funky grandma, and she on the contrary was excited and wanted to be called a "baby”. See the irony of life. The old want to be young and the young want to be older.

Lesson learnt, enjoy each day because you can only grow older.

Thank goodness, he's much better now.

Hi there, so he's so much better than yesterday and I’m so happy i can stop being worried again. A big thanks to all that sent messages asking about his welfare, prayed and thought about us. So these little ones grow so quickly, and you're left asking this question, "where on earth did the time go"? My son has become so strong and strong willed at such an early age. He chooses when he wants to eat and when he doesn't want to you cannot force him without regretting it afterwards. God help me and you too, if you find yourself in my situation.

So where did i go wrong to cause all the vomiting that happened yesterday? Wrong handling of his food, not treating his cold early enough, was it something he ate that he was reacting to, or the new cereal i bought for him? Is it the tooth that is about to cut out? I ask myself these "99 questions" but i can't seem to say this is the one major cause. However, there are some lessons learnt.

I need to increase his vitamin C dosage from 2.5 ml once a day to 3 times a day (God help me), make sure i am the only one who prepares his food, treat any illness in good time and lastly, pray and hope that all these work.

I absolutely love staying at home with my wonderful boy, because it’s a time in our lives that we can never take back. Also, when i listen to some of my friends who had to resume work 2-3 months after delivery, talk about how lucky i am and how they wish were at home with their babies too (no pun intended), i am even more grateful for having this opportunity to be with my boy 24/7:). However, there comes a time in a woman's life that she needs to be out there again. I miss waking up early to go to work, working with the "good, bad and ugly", and just the general feeling of putting my brain to use outside the home.

I know its hard out there, people there want to come out, blah blah blah, but please cut me some slack. I have two degrees and a juicy certification, i need to expend all that i have learnt in the four and many walls of the universities i attended. Just thinking out loud, so please don't judge me :|. (Wink wink)

By the way, I’m going to start something very soon. It's a secret, can you keep one?

BOY O BOY, SEE RASHES ON MY 'OYINBO' O

Hi there, guess who woke up on the right side of the bed? Momore started crying and disturbing while i was watching a movie around past 11 pm last night, and at the end of the 'episode', i couldn't continue with the movie. He had eaten few hours before he slept, his diaper was okay, so there was no logical reasoning as to why he was awake and crying. (His dad was busy laughing this whole time because my son has a funny way of crying, very low, people have commended this severally and told me how lucky i am.) He ended up sleeping on the bed with hubby and i, guess he doesn't know that "three is a crowd". I later discovered that his body temperature was a bit higher than normal, which could have been the cause for the fussiness last night.

I forgot to mention that the back pain i complained about yesterday is gone! Thanks to Diclofenac. I've been longing to see the movie "Iyore" for months now, and i was able to watch it yesterday at home with a friend, thanks to Iroko tv. Now back to my main topic for the day, Cold vs heat.

Momore has had this rashes on his upper part of his body (neck, chest and hands) for some days now and its so annoying. I must also mention that he's also coughing and sneezing too. I've been to the pharmacy to get a cough syrup (which i was apprehensive about getting) and the first day i gave him, he threw up afterwards. This my boy can throw up for Nigeria. If he doesn't like a food or is not in the mood for it and you force him, he throws up. My friends, this can be very frustrating. So i just dress him very warm, and use a nasal aspirator (see pic below) that i got from 'Ebay'. Aint nobody has time to be using her mouth to suck out the bugor/catarrh from his nose. I'm a 21st century mom, or an "internet mom" like my mom likes to call me. By the way, my mom is the funniest grand mom you'll ever meet, trust me. My good friends can attest to this fact. So my son hates this aspirator, in short, he hates anything touching his face, or nose, so you can imagine the 'World Wars' i fight every time its time to cleanup his nose after sneezing.

So pls mothers, and anyone that can help, which is better, keep him warm and risk more rashes but the cold disappears, or wear normal clothes and allow rashes disappear? I'm in a dilemma now. I have used 'Agnesia' powder, now i'm using 'Tribotan'. I all i want is for this horrible rashes to leave my boy. As at the time of composing this post, he was only wearing a singlet and his 'Huggies' diaper. 'Please, I can not come and kill my self', like people here in Lagos say. lol.

Pls kindly advice on this matter and i'm saying a big THANKS in advance.

BACK PAIN, BIRTHDAY PLANS, HAPPY MOM

Hi there, so this morning I woke up feeling this terrible pain on the left side of my back, not sure what caused it, but I know that lying on my left side to breastfeed is surely not good for my back. My husband tried his best to help massage it, but I'm afraid i"ll have to break my church fast earlier than expected today so that i can take a pain killer.

So for the past 2 weeks now, I've been thinking and planing for Momore's 1st Birthday coming up soon. I even had to beg a good friend who happens to be one of three of my son's godmothers (lucky boy right?) to make sure her wedding doesn't clash with the birthday celebration. As at today, Momore has 6 teeth, loves to play with people, stands well (for few seconds) and can even walk aided and absolutely loves pictures, thanks to his beautiful mom ;). All these tell me that he's going to love and enjoy his Birthday party :). He won't be a cranky birthday boy that will be afraid to take pictures and allow people play with or carry him.

I will be talking more on this in later posts. Let me leave you with some pictures to back up my "claims".

HI, I'M MOMOREOLUWA'S MOM

Hi there, i'll like to go by the name Dadu. I am a first time mom to a beautiful boy named Momoreoluwa (literally meaning "I know the Lord's favour") (Momore for short) and this is my first post. This blog will focus on some of my activities as a mom to my amazing son, his daily "accomplishments" and many more happenings in our lives. I got married to my lovely husband in April 2013 and gave birth to my bundle of joy on the 3rd of September 2014. It was the 3rd best day of my life. (lol)

Being a mom has been a journey filled with so many emotions, but that's story for other days. I employ you to come along with me on this journey as we discover how having a child can change many things in the life of a young mother ( ;) yes i'm still young) who is also only just starting to discover life.

Welcome baby!
First pout!

I look forward to having a lovely time here with you and many other readers too. About to give my lil boy a night shower. See you tomorrow.
